Age-old rivalry with Beitar waned at State Cup final | | Cars adorned with Beitar Jerusalem's yellow and Hapoel Tel Aviv's red converged at Kibbutz Galuyot Junction on Tuesday on their way to Ramat Gan Stadium where the two teams played in the cup final. Long gone are the days when old pickup trucks packed with people were a regular part of the soccer scenery, back in the 1970s and '80s. Nowadays, brand new vehicles zoom by and vanish into the urban, high-rise landscape.

Maria Sharapova moved a step closer to the No. 1 ranking, overcoming some erratic moments before beating Dominika Cibulkova 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the second round of the Italian Open on Wednesday. With top-ranked Justine Henin announcing her retirement, Sharapova is poised to move to No. 1 next week -- depending on if and when Henin asks the WTA Tour to remove her from the rankings.
